InterACT

InterACT is an educational tool that builds upon the ethos of Theatre in Education.

Normally, within Theatre in Education, the audience is expected to observe the action presented before them; afterwards the audience discuss the issues raised.

‘InterACT’ takes a different, more immersive approach.

InterACT uses the audience’s suggestions to create an interactive theatre experience that can be used as a learning tool across the curriculum; it applies the teachings of Augusto Boal’s Forum Theatre where the audience become ‘Spect-actors’ and control the motivations of the actors.

The audience provide the suggestions and the actors allow the action to unfold by improvising the scene using the resources that they have been given.

The action can be frozen at any point and new choices can be made to take the drama in a new direction, allowing ideas that evolve out of the action to be investigated.

This is an excellent tool to explore the complexities surrounding attitudes towards LGBT issues; ideas and opinions can be explored through improvisation to stimulate discussion and debate.
